Here's my post-race report:
It's a bag of mixed feelings for me this one.

Practice:
I tried both cars, and was able to get similar times with both, but the fact that I was fighting the Abarth more to keep in in the racing line made me lean towards taking the Mazda.
I also noticed me and Jose had similar times so I was expecting a good fight between us.

Qualification:
Was not able to get into the 1:55 range, despite being able to pull it off easily during practice. Perhaps it was pre-race nerves or just could not get in the zone. Despite this not much would've change in grid position so I did not let that affect me.

Race:
EXCELENT START from everyone! No problems on lap 1, everyone took it very clean and respectful, really happy to see.
My start was slow so I quickly dropped all the way to the back and everything was running smoothly until Jose crashed into someone on the straight (was it William? can't recall) and my evasive maneuvers got me spinning to the wall. Simple lack of skill to control the car after the quick steer to the right, got it out of balance and could not regain it.
Despite the crash I was still seeing both Jose and the other Mazda on my mirror so all was going well... until I spin out of control a few laps later and found myself all the way back again.
From here on my race was super lonely :(. I never got to catch up to Jose, then he made some mistake and I found him standing on the side of the track but despite having a better pace than me in the second half of the race the gap was too big and he never caught up.
P14 in the end, but my position gains compared to quali were only due to the misfortunes of other drivers.

Final thoughts:
1) Great progress from the bottom of the grid. I see the improvement from both me and Jose when compared to just a few races back. The (almost) lack of blue flags on this short track goes to show not only that we are bridging the gap to the front but also that our consistency is increasing and we are making less mistakes.
2) This track made me realize I am doing a lot of things wrong: I don't have as good understanding of the "grip wheel" as I thought I had and my lines on tight corners are :poop:. I don't think I've gotten a good line through that last hairpin once! But hey! I'm happy to see this because the first step to improvement is realizing what is wrong.
3) My new wheel stand arrived on Tuesday, so just in time for this race. Now that I don't slide my chair when braking I've realized how bad the brake pedal in the G923 really is... I think I need to look for a mod or replace the spring because it's really bad.

Congratulations to all the winners, great racing as usual!
For all the regulars that for one reason on the other could not make it: we missed you.

Jason I'm really sorry for you and not too long ago (~2 years) I was in a similar position.
When your PC let's you down it's really sad and building a new set up is not only costly but overwhelming with all the different parts that need to be compatible and whatnot.
I hope with the help of everyone you can sort it out quickly.
If my interpretation is correct you might be like me, and if that is the case don't pay much attention to the upgradability of your set-up. You will stick with it for years and when the time to upgrade comes everything is so outdated that you will end up building something from scratch anyways.

Han once again thank for organizing it and enjoy your holidays! We'll try not to make a mess while you are gone. :roflmao:

And for all the Dutchies: enjoy your Koningsdag!
The weather is looking great outside! Temperature could be better though...

Ricardo, you and Jose have indeed made great progress.

Regarding your chair moving, is it on casters? My chair is and when I switched to a load cell pedal I had to fit locking casters and my chair doesn't move now.

Sadly I don't have space for a rig.

Yeah, Jose didn't see me and unfortunately I was already up against the barrier and we touched even though I was trying to back off.

I've realized how bad the brake pedal in the G923 really is

It is pretty poor, I agree. I would very much recommend the Truebrake mod, I got it for my G29 pedals and it was brilliant. So good in fact that if I knew what the T-LCMs felt like I wouldn't have bothered with the upgrade. As nice as the T-LCMs are they don't feel any different to the modded Logitech pedals.

It's an office chair on casters, yes.
I bought some fixed stands which I would replace the casters for whenever I would go racing but it would still slide under very heavy braking.
Then after last week's race I ordered a wheel stand with a cradle for the office chair, that prevents any sliding. The casters fit in the cradle and do not go anywhere.
But yeah, it requires a slightly bit of space. On the positive side now I can just fold it and push it to the side without having to share the desk space with all the gear - it's all in one corner when not in use.
If it weren't for it weighing around 25kg I would say it's easier to move things around now.

Thank you for the suggestion, it's actually more than I was hopping for.
I remember seeing some videos where people replace the spring with a rubber piece, or lighter springs, but this replaces the entire pedal mechanism!
It's also a bit more pricey than what I would like to spend for a fix, but seems well worth it.
I will definitely give it a thought.
Thanks again!

Hey Ricardo,

it´ll probably pay of to concentrate on your lines first, especially on a track like this with so much WOT ( wide open throttle).
The exits are crucial because the straights are so long.

here´s my (PB) line:

MD last corner.PNG

here´s the brake trace:

and here the speed visualisation:

MD last corner speed.PNG

You see brake early, trailbrake it in and early gas for maximum exit speed.

By no means did it always pan out so well, I had a lot entry oversteer most of the time because trailbraking to late/to hard.

So practice the widest possible line and early accelaeration, even if it costs you entry/midcorner speed in the beginning.
Than escalate from there ;)

Happy Hunting Carsten

Well if I can find al the bits and pieces for it I'm sure we could sort something out and avoid you having to pay full price, I've got the Leo Bodnar cable that you need for it too. Give it some thought.

What analysis tools are you using, Carsten? I have been tempted to dabble to help improve.

Regarding the entry oversteer, I was trying to time it so the oversteer pointed me at the apex. Tricky timing and I seldom nailed it but when I did I gained a few tenths and getting close enough was fine for race pace. :)

Edit, looking at your visualisations I think my approach to t1 is completely different. Late-ish hard braking, then quite quickly off the brake to induce oversteer then hard acceleration and pray I make the apex and track out. I will need to compare in the replay.

Thank you so much Carsten!
That does help, even though going from theory to practice it's the difference between the top and the bottom of the grid.

I did jump on other cars during the practice but then whenever I tried different lines it would still be :poop:, or at least that's what the delta would tell me.

The main getaway for me from your explanation is that I need to break earlier than I am currently doing. Sacrificing braking time for early accelerations for the long straights. I sure wasn't doing that on the last hairpin.
It was when I tried trail braking than I realized my braking is bad - equal parts of lack of skill and a terrible pedal on the G923.
And of course, following the wider line. I will do what I can from that.

For T1 I was pretty much doing the same as Douglas, even though I was in the Mazda: late hard braking aiming to the apex and then controlling the oversteer through the curve. Maybe not the fastest but definitely a good adrenaline rush keeping it under control!

Thank you William, but don't worry about it.
If I do decide to go with it I'll just order it from Amazon.
Just need to compare it with other solutions and consider if it is worth to invest in the current set-up or to start thinking about an upgrade.

Just looked at the replay, I am sure it was me warping, after Rasmus explanation.

So I am a warper:(

Cannot comment on Allan as there was just two of us, but because of the above, probably me.

I have always assumed I was isolated from this problem.:(

AA9B3F2D-5B3B-4B1A-B2AF-DEBF55811444.jpeg

My internet is about 30mhz and a ping of between 9 and 11. Ethernet connection. ( will check if I am not on Wifi by mistake when I get home ) ( I was on both , now only ethernet }

So it is difficult to know where to go from here.:(

@Douglas Aird:

No, you will not, you're fast enough

Im using Z1 Analyzer, but some people here dabble in Motec which is free.

I found 25€ for Z1 reasonable, I would have had to put more than that into the swear jar while trying to install and configure Motec.

Its a bit clunky but has reasonably fast support by Russel.

More later, I'm now heading into work (again)

I was just watching a review about it and something I was not aware of was mentioned: the Logitech software models the brake signal into a non-linear curve.
Did you use the logitech pedals attached to the wheel or through a USB bypass?

Yes USB, the Leo Bodnar cable has new firmware which fixes the dead zone at the end of travel, works a treat.
