AMS 2: Classic Nürburgring Out Now As Pre-Release Beta

For over a month, we've known that Reiza's historical rendition of the Nürburgring in its 1971 guise was close. With still some work to do, Automobilista 2 now has a released version of the classic Nurburgring, albeit in beta form.

Upon release of the most recent full update to Automobilista 2, Reiza Studios launched a classic version of the Bathurst circuit. Alongside the drop came the announcement that its long-in-the-works classic Nürburgring was also soon for release.

An added snippet of information claimed that the team wasn't just focusing on the Nordschleife section of road, but also the now-forgotten Sudschleife. Never before seen in an official capacity in simracing, this was to be a historic moment for racing games. Well, the time has come, sort of.

Over the weekend, Brazilian game developer Reiza Studios released its classic Nürburgring for those signed up for the Automobilista 2 Beta program. Currently in pre-release form, it features several bugs and is missing track-side objects that the team plans on implementing in days to come. But for those looking to drive a circuit they possibly had never heard of prior to last month's announcement, it certainly does the job.

How to access the AMS 2 Classic Nürburgring Beta

To test out this newest addition to Automobilista 2, you will have to sign up to the game's beta program on Steam. To do so, simply enter your Steam library and right click on Automobilista 2. From there, go to Properties and the Beta tab. From the dropdown menu, pick Release Candidate, and your game should update to the latest pre-release version of the game.

Aside from the new track, the release candidate version of AMS 2 brings a variety of fixes, notably to a selection of minor graphical bugs. However, it also includes the 2023 grid of Brazilian Stock Cars. Featuring all the skins, fans of the series will have a new championship to enjoy.

Have you tried out the classic Nürburgring yet? What do you make of it?

6am race start, full grid of retro F1 cars, VR headset and a quality set of headphones. Time set to 10x.

What an incredible experience, And not just the track, or the sun effects through the trees as the area gets bathed in the morning light , the wisps of fog rising off the track in the early morning setting, But the entire driving experience.

I guess I will be the "butt" that goes against the grain. I don't need another track. Certainly not another damn Nords.
I need a replay system that works in practice mode with various camera angles and not the "never worked" PC2 version. Look at how Kunos does it.
Thank you for your support.

And the late 70ies- early 80ies 4th Gen Group 5 series cars are quite senseless racing Gesamtstrecke/Südschleife of which was demolished years before this Group 5 Gen was racing.
With some luck, the Betonschleife could be added. It was ran from 74-79' (Gr.2/4/5N/5).

That would make sense in a historic perspective, and follows in my wish list of my later post. Though small loop, would be a total blast in those series!

Finally found some time to ride the Nurburgring Historic. I'm very impressed!! Since it is still in Beta.. here are some comments and hopefully this can still be done.
the layout feels a bit flat.. when I look at images or see pictures some cars really come off the asphalt, for example Pflanzgarten.. never driven in real life at that time. but I think it's a bit bumpy.. not as bumpy as the 60's but still bumpy.

hopefully there will be some real 70's tents.. there were hundreds lined the track on a race weekend, and german cars

In some of my photos it also looks like some guardrails are white in color.. but not sure if this was done after 1971.

Again, no whining on my part. My feedback is positive!!!

More by sim, I always found pCars, AC , AMS2, ACC are "too heavy" like gravity is higher.
In gmotor and rFactor2 gravity is lighter cars get more air, pretty obvious if you test.
This imho is a base philosophy difference that makes rF2 cars more lively on bumps and in general.
Only downside it can make cars flip over easy.

I mean really, none of you have ever wondered why gmotor cars can roll so easy, have a think on it. :coffee:

Maybe you missed the memo: the way Madness Engine is conceived is "kind of" a blockchain in regards to track status (Live Track) and I believe also all of the cars "status". This interlink between every subsequent "status" is the reason why saving during an event and jumping to a point in the replay isn't possible. It's a pillar of how the engine was conceived and changing it isn't just "copy what Kunos does" simple.
Reiza has explained since quite some time that at some point this could be considered for a change but definitely not in the short period especially considering how such a deep engine revision could be froth with risks of breaking the whole construction.
